Our Story

Born from the deep love between a grandmother and granddaughter, Ms. Elsie’s Caribbean Bed & Breakfast has been welcoming guests since September 2000.

This Inn was lovingly dedicated to my grandmother — our family matriarch, my best friend, and the remarkable woman whose spirit fills every room: Ms. Elsie.

Her warmth, her joy, and her legacy of unconditional love inspired me to share not just a place to stay, but a place to feel, be heard, and be seen!

We love to entertain and do it very well at Ms. Elsie's. Guests come to relax and have a good time, so we invite you to come and make new friends, meet new people, have great conversations, dance, play the piano, sing, enjoy good music, karaoke, and enjoy yourselves! If all you want to do is hibernate and sleep, yes, come and get some much-needed rest!

Guests may also read, converse, have moments of reflection, practice yoga, and tai chi, laugh, listen to island music, jazz, or old school R&B, dance, or "do de' limbo." We invite you to make yourself comfortable and at home.

In our outdoor areas, guests can retreat to play table tennis, cornhole, play jacks, hula-hoop, "jump double dutch rope, shoot hoops, relax in the hammock, or sit in the swing and enjoy the serene ambiance of the beautiful tropical garden scape in our quaint backyard while relaxing in the cabana around the pool in the spring/summer. Live steel drum music is available in the summertime and at breakfast upon request (*additional charge). Let us help you celebrate your next special occasion.

Ms. Elsie's is a "Tropical Hideaway" with warm, welcoming energy that spoils you from the time you enter until it is time to go home. The hosts will spoil you with island hospitality and delicious tropical treats, so that when it is time to go "you don't want to leave us!"

We are unable to accommodate pets, but we would be happy to assist you in locating luxury pet accommodations nearby.
For the comfort, safety, and consideration of others, smoking is permitted outside in designated areas only. There will be a minimum charge of $250 for smoking in the inn. We ask that you also please refrain from vaping, burning candles, and incense as well.
Ms. Elsie’s is regarded as a quiet escape and romantic getaway for most of our guests, and we work hard to nurture and sustain a peaceful environment for rest and relaxation. Therefore, it is not an appropriate place for children under 12 unless your group has rented the entire house.
Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, and cash are accepted – a deposit equal to the full cost of a one night’s stay is required to guarantee your reservation.
Your full deposit minus a $100 service fee will be refunded if you cancel your reservation no later than 7 days before your scheduled arrival date. This gives us time to try and re-book the room. If a cancellation is received less than 7 days of the date of your arrival, the full fee for the original reservation will be charged and is non-refundable. If your reservation falls on a holiday, special event or you have reserved multiple guestrooms, a 30-day cancellation is required. Early departures and no-shows are considered a cancellation and fall within the described cancellation policy. Because we are a small business, cancellations affect us significantly. We ask that all reservation cancellations be made via telephone and confirmed in writing via e-mail.

Arrivals outside of regular check-in times must be arranged in advance. Guests that have not arrived by 8 p.m. and have not made late arrival arrangements will be charged as no-shows.

Charlotte is proximal and convenient, accessible by plane, train, car, or bus to any major city in the US. Charlotteans are friendly people and Southern hospitality reigns supreme. We relocated to Charlotte 35 years ago from New York and have watched this city explode with culture and entertainment. Charlotte has a beautiful African American Arts & Entertainment Center (Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts + Culture, a historical Arts district known as NODA, beautiful Theater and Performing Arts Centers, Museums, Comedy Clubs, Middle C Jazz Club, Great Restaurants, 4 Major League Sports Teams, (Charlotte Hornets, Carolina Panthers, Charlotte Football Club, and Charlotte Knights Baseball, NASCAR, Drag Racing, Whitewater Rafting) and is home to the NASCAR Hall of Fame.
